To meet the Eu conditions, we now have to send alpacas for 6 months in New Zealand. Once they have become resident of New Zealand, then they do one month quarantine before being loaded on the airplane to any country in Europe.
Mariah Hill are breeders of alpacas and understand the needs and demands of these animals.
When you place your alpacas in our care, you know that we will look after them like our own. Elyse who manages the quarantine, has grown up with alpacas. She was 3 when we bought our first alpacas, and she develops a close bond with all the alpacas that go through our facility.
At the moment she is undertaking the alpaca management apprenticeship, and completing her Wool Classing Certificate, at Deakin University, Geelong, Wool school, where she is excelling in all aspects of fibre identification, and fibre classing, already gaining her diploma of agriculture, a great basis for her career in Alpacas.
Steps of Alpacas going to Any Country in Europe
As soon as you have selected your alpacas, contact us, so we can allocate when the best and most suitable
time to export them will be- remembering that all female alpacas can not be in their last trimester when they
depart for New Zealand. All crias have to be a minimum of 1 month of age, but we prefer them to be at least
3 months.
Once dates have been allocated, we would like delivery of the alpacas to be at the facility within 14 days of the
start of quarantine, as there are procedures to performed to meet the NZ Protocol 8/5/06..
For UK Clients- It is a good time at this stage to organize screening with the British Alpaca society, Libby is the
lady to speak to,
We need to clear properties first with the Department of Primary industries, so we would like all property details
so we can make contact and inform them of what we require of them. (if you decide to go with no frills, the
property of origin will need to organise these details)
Once quarantine starts, we keep you informed all the way of each procedure we perform, as well as any results and a regular update on your alpaca.
They will be greeted by Bev & John Scott once they arrive in Auckland, and taken to their picturesque property in Warworth, approx 1.5 hrs from Auckland Airport.
In New Zealand, they undergo TB testing every 3 months, and are given extra supplements all the way through their stay there.
If they deliver in Auckland, an opportunity arises for them to be mated over there, to some show champion alpaca males, from white, fawn, grey and black.
(a special price has been arranged for quarantines, and ultrasound to confirm pregnancy is extra, but at reasonable rates... this way you have bought 1 pregnant female, she delivers and you have another when she is confirmed pregnant, so effectively you are not wasting any breeding time, and you are taking home 3 animals effectively.)
Once the 6 mths is up, the animals enter into quarantine in NZ, and again some more tests are performed to meet the EU protocol, 30 days in quarantine,
before they are delivered to the airport.
So, for example, if you purchase alpacas at the Australian National in October, they can start quarantine in December, and be in England by around July 2007.
There is a time line for payments, to meet all the govt and airline deadlines.
Prices can differ, due to size of animal & numbers available and airline availability.
Two weeks prior to the alpacas departing from Australia, we need full payment of the Australian leg.
There are MAF, NZ GST and customs fees that have to be paid at this time also, which has to be calculated by Bev & John Scott, so that the animals will be released at the airport.
If these fees are not paid, then the MAF will hold the animals until they are.
On arrival, $AUS 760 needs to be paid per alpaca to Bev & John Scott, which is 50% of their 6 mth residency stay which includes TB testing feed, any supplements required, and alpaca maintenance, (does not include any extra veterinary or lab fees if the alpaca requires extra attention).
At the end of the 6 mth residency stay, the balance of the NZ expenses are to be paid, prior to entry into the last 30 day quarantine period.
1 mth prior to entry 50% of the EU leg of the flight has to be paid, the balance of flight is to be paid at start of NZ quarantine.
These monies have to be paid to secure flight space.
